Tournament

January 14-16, 2007
Outdoor Channel Offshore Classic in Islamorada, Fl.
This year we (PVA Heritage Fund) took 13 wounded Veterans from Walter Reed Army hospital in Wash, DC fishing with us. It was a great time with one of our teams taking 2nd place out of 21 teams and none of the teams anglers had ever sailfished before. These trips are so important for our wounded Veterans, getting out of the hospital and back into the world is so important both mentally and for rehabilitation.
We could not have had a better group of guys, everyone of them was fantastic and they were all ready to fish and have a great time.
I have to thank all my buddies that came to help, fish and have a great time.

I can't wait until next year!

Thanksgiving week

L-R Alan Mollohan, Doug Warren, Steve Sanford.
Last week I was honored to go deer hunting with an injured Iraqi Veteran Steve Sanford in West Virginia with Congressman Alan Mollohan (WV). Steve was injured pretty bad in Iraq and won the Purple Heart and he has been nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. I met Steve in Fairbanks in September during our annual PVA Heritage fund moose hunt we do for our disabled Veterans. Steve was a great inspiration to everyone and great fun to be around and as you can see he harvested a beautiful 6-point whitetail, his first buck ever.

Sailfish tournament

Today I am working on a project to take 15-20 injured and recovering Iraqi Veterans to Florida in January for a sailfishing tournament we do every year with the Outdoor Channel. This is something I have been working on for a number of weeks now, working with the VA hospitals provides its challenges but everything always seems to come together in the end. I was supplied with a list of 15 confirmed names today so we are one step closer to making it happen.

This is just one of the many projects we do through the Paralyzed Veterans of America Heritage Fund. I have been very fortunate over the past 7-8 years, working with Veterans and other sportsman with various disabilities has really had an impact on my life and this pushes me to work harder every day to make more things happen.
